Collings Hanger Pond

Collings Hanger Pond was once a large pond at the edge of Prestwood Common beside Collings Hanger Farm, where stock were watered and wet mud at the margins attracted clouds of butterflies.  With the establishment of a modern A-road between the farm and the pond, and new housing on the other side, no more remained than a roadside ditch.  It was, however, one of the few places locally where Reed was known to grow.  Great Missenden Parish Council contracted Prestwood Nature to clear the silted up site in 2006.  Since then it has regularly held much more water and the reeds are growing strongly again.  At the side of a main road, however, it suffers continual litter thrown from car windows.
